Maria grew up in Halifax and graduated from Dalhousie Medical School in 1986. She established her medical practice in St. Margaret's Bay in 1988. She works full time and continues to enjoy the challenges of family medicine. She is dedicated to providing compassionate and comprehensive primary care to her patients. Maria enjoys travel and continuing medical education, most recently at Harvard in July 2013. She also enjoys time with her children, Joseph and Marianna, who are both attending university.
Tantallon Community Medical Clinic welcomed Amy to our clinic in 2022! Amy graduated with her BScN from the University of Ottawa in 2010 and has a background in cardiac surgery, cardiology/CCU and community health nursing. She is currently enrolled in the Master's of Nursing Program, Nurse Practioner Stream at Dalhousie University. Amy enjoys caring for patients of all ages, and lives in Halifax with her adored cat Molly.
Tantallon Community Medical Clinic welcomed Dr. Elyisha Hanniman to our clinic in 2023. Dr. Hanniman graduated from Dalhousie Medical School in 2021 and completed her residency training at Dalhousie. She has a background in scientific research with a PhD in Pharmacology from Dalhousie University. Elyisha enjoys seeing patients of all ages and focuses on self-advocacy and preventative medicine. Elyisha lives in Timberela with her husband and two boys.
Dr. Zed completed her medical degree and family medicine residency from Dalhousie University and began working at our clinic in 2021. In addition to caring for her roster of family medicine patients, she also looks after residents at a long-term care facility and is a preceptor to medical students from Dalhousie University. She has an interest in skin cancer and accepts referrals for skin cancer screening and treatment.
PRACTICE CLOSURE NOTICE: Dr. Jessica Mitchell is closing her practice at Tantallon Family Practice Effective August 31, 2024. We are making every effort to find a replacement. A letter was emailed and/or mailed via Canada Post to her patient roster. If you did not receive one, please call our office at (902)826-2744 and we will mail one out to you.
Tantallon Family Practice welcomed Jessica in April of 2018. Dr. Mitchell graduated from Queen's University in 2010 and and after having provided comprehensive and compassionate care to all of the patients in her family practice in Ontario for 8 years, has relocated to Nova Scotia with her husband and children and is loving it! With her upbeat personality and positive demeanour Jess is a welcome addition to our team!
Tantallon Community Medical Clinic welcomed Marguerite in 2016! Marguerite grew up in Guysborough County and graduated from Dalhousie School of Nursing in 2004. She has worked at both the QEII and the IWK. She has always been interested in family medicine and loves the diversity it offers. She enjoys spending her time with her husband and 5 children.
Jennifer was born in Annapolis Royal, however grew up in various communities across Canada. She graduated from Ross University School of Medicine in 2012 and in 2015 she completed her 3 year family medicine residency in Ohio, USA. Jennifer enjoys seeing patients and families of all ages and loves the diversity the family medicine specialty serves. Jennifer is married and has two very entertaining sons!
Katherine grew up in Halifax. After spending 4 years at Memorial University playing basketball for the Seahawks, she graduated from Dalhousie Medical School in 2012. She completed her Family Medicine Residency Program at Dalhousie in 2014. She loves the variety and continuity of care in Family Medicine and also has an interest in minor procedures and medical education. Katherine is married and enjoys spending time with her two young children.
Dr. Norman joined Tantallon Community Medical Clinic in 2012 to establish his part-time practice of office based Urology. He has been a leader in his field and was previously Chief of Urology at Capital District Health in Halifax. Dr. Norman offers non-emergency, non-operative evaluation and care of adult patients on a referral basis. He performs minor urologic procedures including vasectomies under local anaesthesia. Dr. Norman welcomes new referrals as well as followup consultations on patients he has seen in the past.
Benno graduated from Dalhousie Medical School in 1993. Following residency training in Family Medicine also at Dalhousie University he worked in family practice in St. Margaret's Bay for seven years. We are pleased that Benno has returned after being away in Ottawa. He is appreciated for his clinical skills and thoroughness in establishing accurate diagnosis and providing concientious followup. Benno is a true family physician, who also enjoys walk-in medical care.
Krista graduated from the Memorial University of Newfoundland Medical School in 1988. She moved to Nova Scotia in 1995 and established her family practice in Upper Tantallon. Krista has a full-time family practice and has enjoyed serving the people of St. Margaret's Bay for over 19 years. She has a teaching appointment at the Dalhousie University Department of Family Medicine and teaches medical students and residents in her practice. She is compassionate and caring and provides comprehensive care to her patients. Krista is married and has three sons, Jonathan, Andrew and Justin.
Wendy grew up in Lunenburg County, and has been our full time office manager since 1999. She coordinates and directs all daily operations of our busy multi-disciplinary clinic. She is a dynamic team leader for our staff and doctors. Wendy makes every effort to ensure patients have a positive experience within our clinic and she treats each patient with care and respect. Wendy is dedicated to the provision of uninterrupted services through recruitment and retention of office staff and physicians. Wendy is fun loving and enjoys adventuring and exploring our province as well as traveling with her husband Brad.
